The paper presents results of a study of the history of cooperation in education in the European Union from the initial years of the European Economic Community establishment to the end of 1990ies. The author reflects on the outcomes of a comprehensive research of policy and legal framework, methods and tools of the EU member-states cooperation in the sphere of education, highlights the main models and patterns of collaboration and the interdependence of cooperation in education with the dynamics of the economic and political integration processes.
